Binding. The tie that binds. Cutting the apron strings. In the days before playpens and babysitters mothers wore aprons over their day dresses. A small toddler would literally be tied to her apron strings to keep her safely close at hand.
At my last farmer's market stint a lady somewhat timidly stepped into my booth. I watched her take a quilt binding in hand, turn it over and look at the mitered corner with a furrowed brow. Ahh, that's when I knew she's a newbie quilter not quite sure how to do a finish binding. I've done so many that it's second nature, easy and a nice way to catch up on my latest Netflix binge series (currently the British crime series "Happy Valley"). For that lady (and many others) a brief pictorial on a simple binding method.
